The City of Vernon is advising motorists to expect traffic impacts and changing traffic patterns in the Alexis Park area through early September as construction continues on the 43rd Avenue Roundabout Project and gets underway on the 39th Avenue Culvert Rehabilitation Project.
With both projects taking place in the same area over the coming weeks, the City of Vernon and its contractors are coordinating traffic management to maintain access for residents, businesses and visitors, keep traffic moving safely and minimize disruption wherever possible.
39th Avenue Culvert Rehabilitation Project
Culvert rehabilitation work on 39th Avenue will require periodic traffic restrictions through early September.
Full daytime closures of 39th Avenue are currently anticipated on:
- August 13 to 15
- August 17 to 22
- August 24
The City and its contractor will work to minimize full road closures wherever possible. When construction activities allow, single-lane alternating traffic will be maintained.
Outside of construction working hours, 39th Avenue will remain open to traffic.
Motorists should expect delays throughout the project and are encouraged to watch electronic message boards in the area for the latest information on road closures, traffic patterns and working hours.
Construction on the culvert rehabilitation is expected to be complete by September 4.
43rd Avenue Roundabout Project
Construction of the new roundabout on 43rd Avenue remains underway.
Local traffic detours and construction signage are in place throughout the project area. A small-vehicle detour using 42nd Avenue and 35th Street will remain in effect for the duration of construction.
Motorists are reminded to follow all posted detour and traffic control signage and use caution when travelling through the construction area. See map below.
Access to the Vernon Farmers' Market
The City and its contractors are also coordinating construction activities around Vernon Farmers' Market operations.
Market days bring additional traffic into the area, and construction schedules and traffic control may be adjusted as needed to help maintain safe and efficient access for market attendees, nearby businesses and residents.
Drivers should plan ahead, allow additional travel time and follow the direction of traffic control personnel and posted signage.
