City of Vernon Snow and Ice Program

Public Notice

The City of Vernon snow and ice program addresses roads in a priority basis. All City roads are divided into priorities as follows:

  • Priority 1 roads include: arterials, collectors, bus routes, school zones and select problem areas.
  • Priority 2 roads include: all remaining roads except lanes and cul-de-sacs.
  • Priority 3 roads include: lanes and cul-de-sacs.

Depending on the volume of a snow event, response times will vary to allow work crews the appropriate time to respond. Sidewalks and walkways use a similar priority system and are maintained in compliance of the Snow and Ice policy.

Although most city streets will have been plowed and sanded by Saturday morning, drivers should be aware that melting snow and freezing rain could cause icy sections. Please drive cautiously and allow yourself more time to get to your destination.

Please help keep our streets safe for pedestrians by shovelling the snow and removing the ice from the sidewalks and foot paths bordering your property. When shovelling sidewalks and driveways avoid piling snow on travel lanes, storm drains, fire hydrants or bus pickup/drop-off areas.
