On September 27, Council will receive a report at its Regular Meeting, outlining key dates for a by-election to fill a vacant Councillor position. The report will include a proposed Nomination Period, Advance Voting Days and the General Voting Day.
The Local Government Act requires local governments to hold a by-election if a Council position becomes vacant before January 1 in the year of a general local election, which for British Columbia is January 1, 2022. The by-election for Vernon is required following the passing of Councillor Dalvir Nahal.
“On behalf of the City of Vernon, we would like to extend sincere condolences again to the family and friends of Councillor Nahal,” said Mayor Victor Cumming. “These are difficult circumstances under which a by-election is required in our community.”
Further information and updates about the by-election will be available in the coming weeks and will be posted to the City’s website and social media channels.
