Earlier this summer, the City distributed a notice to residents, identifying a small but important error on Vernon’s new household garbage collection calendar. The calendar was included in the Curbside Waste Collection Guide that was placed inside each of the organics carts that were distributed prior to the start of the new organics collection program.
“When we printed the Curbside Waste Collection Guide, we inadvertently reversed the dark and light-coloured boxes between August 31 and September 1,” said Christy Poirier, Manager, Communications and Grants. “These coloured boxes represent the garbage collection day for each collection zone. Therefore, the reversal made it look like garbage collection schedules would change this fall. But they won’t. We apologize for the mistake.”
So, what does this mean for your household?
Nothing changes for the new routine you’ve established. Organics will continue to be collected every week on your collection day. Garbage will be collected every second week, based on the schedule you’ve had since May 1.
A corrected copy of the garbage collection calendar was included with the City of Vernon second quarter utility bill, along with a list of tips and reminders for the new household organics collection program. A copy of the corrected calendar is also available below.
A digital version of the corrected calendar is available on the City’s website with our interactive collection zone map at vernon.ca/collectionschedule. Alternatively, you can also download and print the revised Curbside Waste Collection Guide on the same webpage.
“We know that many folks travel throughout the summer and get busy with activities, so some residents may have missed the first notification about the calendar correction,” said Poirier. “If residents ever have questions about the new residential waste collection program, they’re encouraged to visit the City’s website and follow our social media channels, where we regularly post tips to help make the transition to the new program much smoother.”
