Acting Mayor Catherine Lord spoke on behalf of Vernon City Council to praise the players and hosts of the 2015 British Columbia A&B Provincial Ringette Championships that were held from March 6-8 at Kal Tire Place, Priest Valley Arena, Civic Arena, and the Pat Duke Memorial Arena in Lumby.
“Congratulations to the local athletes who took part in the Ringette Provincials in Vernon this past weekend—you were amazing to watch,” said Lord. “I was impressed with not just the physical health but the healthy attitude of the athletes I met. Thanks also to the parents, players, coaches, officials and volunteers for bringing this tournament to Vernon.”
Over the course of three days, the Ringette Championships drew more than 550 athletes, parents and families, coaches and officials to the city, and 1,400 elementary school children from around the region were spectators for many of the games. Vernon Ringette will be hosting a free Come Try Ringette event on Saturday, March 14, at 12 pm at Kal Tire Place in Vernon. Acting Mayor Lord encouraged those not familiar with the sport to attend.
“Parents, if you haven’t been exposed to this sport, bring your kids this Saturday to Kal Tire Place for the Come Try Ringette event,” said Lord. “This is a sport that’s active, fast-moving, teaches teamwork, and creates lifelong friendships.”
