Celebrate 2016 Environment Week from June 5 to 11

The community is invited to celebrate Environment Week from June 5 -11. The City of Vernon has partnered with the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) and local stewardship groups to provide a variety of fun and educational events and activities for youths, family and the community.

Monday, June 6: Biodiversity Day – Visit the Allan Brooks Nature Centre and participate in the Community Photo Tree Project. Mention Biodiversity Day for free admission. More information can be found at www.abnc.ca

Tuesday, June 7: Water Awareness Day – Visit the Xerindipity Garden in Polson Park and attend a xeriscape workshop from 7 – 8 p.m. to learn about waterwise gardening and for a chance to win an irrigation controller.

Wednesday, June 8: Clean Air Day – Celebrate National Clean Air Day with free transit all day and a free continental breakfast from 6:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the Downtown Transit Exchange, Cenotaph Park.

Thursday, June 9: Sustainability at the Market – Visit the education station at the Vernon Farmers’ Market (Kal Tire Place 3445 43 Ave) from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. to learn about responsible consumption and for free prizes.

Friday, June 10: Waste Reduction Day – Win a free composter by submitting your waste reduction activities during Environment Week. Email recycle@rdno.ca to enter your submission.
