Public Notice

Due to the Extreme Fire Danger Rating in the Vernon area, all campfires within the City of Vernon will be prohibited beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026. The ban is being issued in coordination with the BC Wildfire Service’s Kamloops Fire Centre campfire ban and is intended to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The campfire ban will remain in effect until it is rescinded by Vernon Fire Rescue Services.

The following activities are still allowed during the campfire ban:

  • Cooking stoves using gas, propane or briquettes
  • Portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC certification, provided the flame height does not exceed 15 centimetres

Residents are reminded that violating the campfire ban may result in fines of up to $1,000 under the City of Vernon Fire Services Bylaw. If a violation causes or contributes to a wildfire, the responsible person may also be required to pay all firefighting and associated costs.

The City of Vernon thanks residents and visitors for their continued cooperation in helping prevent wildfires. To report a fire within the City of Vernon, call 911.
