The Reception Centre at Kal Tire Place remains open to support evacuees requiring in-person assistance. Staff will continue processing everyone who is already in line this evening. The Reception Centre will close overnight once those individuals have been assisted and will reopen in the morning to continue supporting evacuees.
Due to the high number of evacuees seeking assistance, wait times are significant. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay with family or friends, if possible, rather than waiting at the Reception Centre overnight. Choosing alternate accommodations will help reduce wait times and allow staff to prioritize those with the greatest need.
Unless the situation changes significantly, this will be the final update from the City of Vernon this evening.
August 1, 2026 8:30 p.m. update:
The City of Vernon is supporting Bradley Creek Wildfire evacuees who need assistance through Emergency Support Services.
Evacuees can register for ESS by calling the BC Evacuee Helpline at 1-800-387-4258. The helpline is currently open until 9 p.m. to support people affected by wildfires. The Reception Centre at Kal Tire Place, 3445 43rd Avenue, Vernon, remains open to provide registration support, information, resources and referrals for evacuees who require in-person assistance.
Evacuees who need Emergency Support Services (ESS) are strongly encouraged to register by phone if they are able to do so, rather than attending the Reception Centre in person. Registering by phone will help reduce wait times and allow ESS volunteers to support those who need in-person assistance most urgently.
People who have been evacuated are encouraged to stay with family or friends tonight if possible.
The Reception Centre will stay open as long as possible this evening to assist evacuees, but it will not remain open overnight. It will reopen in the morning to continue supporting evacuees who need in-person ESS assistance.
The City of Vernon EOC is working closely with BC Wildfire Service, emergency responders and other partner agencies to support wildfire response efforts and evacuees.
Updates will be provided as the situation evolves. The City thanks the public for its cooperation and asks everyone to avoid the affected area to allow emergency personnel to safely carry out their work.
The City of Vernon encourages residents to sign up for Alertable, the City’s emergency notification system, to receive timely updates during emergencies. Residents can register to receive notifications by phone, text message or email at vernon.ca/alertable.
Emergency response personnel ask the public to:
Avoid the incident area and respect all road closures so emergency responders can safely and effectively perform their duties.
- Give wildfire aircraft plenty of space while they are collecting water in Okanagan Lake to support firefighting efforts.
- Call 911 only in the event of an emergency.
