As we approach one week since the Bradley Creek wildfire response began, the City of Vernon recognizes the uncertainty and challenges many residents continue to face after being displaced from their homes.
The City remains committed to supporting evacuees and ensuring our community has access to the information, resources, and services they need. The City’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) continues to coordinate support, provide timely updates, and work alongside emergency response partners as conditions are monitored.
Bradley Creek wildfire update
The Bradley Creek Wildfire is currently 2,853 hectares and is classified as Out of Control. BC Wildfire Service continues suppression efforts on the Bradley Creek wildfire, with crews working to manage fire activity and reduce the potential for further spread. Recreation Centre access expanded for evacuees
To help support residents displaced by the Bradley Creek wildfire, the City of Vernon is providing evacuees with free access to available drop-in recreation programs at the Vernon Recreation Centre and Aquatic Centre during regular operating hours.
This includes access to the aquatic centre, fitness centre, and eligible drop-in programs. Opening hours are:
- Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday from noon to 7:00 p.m.
How to access: Evacuees can visit Guest Services and provide their ESS referral number to access these services.

Evacuation alerts and orders
The Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) is responsible for issuing, changing, or rescinding Evacuation Alerts and Orders of the Bradley Creek wildfire within its jurisdiction, based on information and recommendations from the BC Wildfire Service and other emergency response partners.
The City of Vernon recognizes that many residents are eager to return home and reconnect with their families and communities. While Evacuation Alerts and Orders remain in place, the City continues to work closely with OKIB to support affected residents and will share confirmed updates as they become available.

Emergency support services continue to support evacuees
The City of Vernon’s Emergency Support Services (ESS) Reception Centre at Kal Tire Place continues to assist residents impacted by the Bradley Creek wildfire.
As of the end of day on August 6, ESS has supported:
- 1314 individuals (649 households) through in-person services at the Reception Centre
- 1394 individuals (675 households) through online and phone registration
The Reception Centre is open daily for evacuees requiring in-person assistance. Hours may be adjusted to accommodate evacuee needs.
Evacuees can access ESS support:
- In person at the Reception Centre at Kal Tire Place
- By phone through the BC Evacuee Helpline at 1-800-387-4258
- Online through the ESS self-registration portal
ESS staff continue to work with evacuees who require renewals or extensions of support.
