City of Vernon tallies cost of January snow and ice control

The cost for snow plowing and removal for the City of Vernon in January was equal to almost 70 per cent of the annual snow and ice control budget, and approximately $275,000 more than the three-year average costs for that month.

From January 1 to 31, 2015, the total cost of plowing and snow removal from Vernon’s roads and sidewalks was approximately $451,000, with $180,000 attributed to the removal and hauling of snow following the major snow event on January 4. These costs include contractors who were hired to assist City crews following the near-record snowfall.

The City’s annual snow and ice control budget for 2015 is $658,000. Over the previous three years, the average cost of snow and ice control services for January was approximately $175,000.
