The project includes reconstruction of approximately 440 metres of road, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main along 32nd Avenue (37th St – 3910 32nd Ave) and 38th Street (32nd Ave – 30th Ave). The project will also include upgrades to the sidewalks and incorporate new bike lanes.
A key consideration for this project is to address the drainage issues along 32nd Avenue identified as a high priority through Drainage Infrastructure Prioritization Plan. The current drainage system is frequently overwhelmed and residents are experiencing flooding.
The project will result in the solution of the drainage problems, transportation safety improvements, and infrastructure renewal.
Update: November 22, 2024
With the exception of some final landscaping, the contractor was able to complete the work on 38th Street. Installation of the new water main up to Alexis Park Drive, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer has all been completed. However, a significant portion of work remains on 32nd Avenue, and will need to be completed in the spring of 2025. This work includes curbs, sidewalk, a multi-use path, lighting, a permanent asphalt surface, and new watermain through the 32nd Avenue and Alexis Park Drive intersection. Please see attached Completed Work Map above.
In order to ensure that residents have access to their properties through the winter, a temporary asphalt surface has been installed on 32nd Avenue. Construction is planned to resume in the spring and be completed by the summer of 2025.
The City of Vernon and the Regional District of the North Okanagan (RDNO) would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation during construction.
