As part of an ongoing effort by the City of Vernon to expand and connect its active transportation network (walking and cycling), a three-metre-wide asphalt-paved multi-use path will be constructed between 24th Avenue and 25th Avenue in the 3700 block. The 110-metre-long path will be located between the apartment complex at 3705 24th Avenue and Albert Place at 3610 25th Avenue.
There is a high number of pedestrians and cyclists in this neighbourhood, which has caused a huge demand for a path connection because there isn’t another pedestrian/cyclist connection on 24th Avenue and 25th Avenue for 5 blocks, between 34th Street and 39th Street. Therefore, pedestrians have been cross-cutting through private property to traverse between 24th Avenue and 25th Avenue.
The connection will reduce pedestrian and cyclist commute times by providing a more direct route to 37th Street, a major junction that provides an opportunity to connect to downtown, to access the 25th Avenue linear park pathway and the transit bus route on 27th Ave. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of March.
