Masters Update as of December 4, 2020: Since the latest PHO Order released on December 2nd, Greater Vernon Recreation Services has been seeking assistance from the aquatic industry experts to interpret how the order would impact our Masters swim program. It has become clear that we can no longer offer Masters swimming sessions.
In order to comply with the PHO Orders, we have cancelled all Masters group workouts until the current orders are rescinded. In place of those workouts we will offer "Workout Lane" swimming during those times, including Sunday mornings. All swim sessions that have been booked up to December 9th will be maintained. As a courtesy to our membership holders, we will still allow you to book your swims 6 days in advance. Unfortunately we can no longer provide group workouts or feedback during these swim sessions.
In order to book your swim sessions until the current Order is rescinded, you will want to look under Activity Reservations > Swimming and filter by Lane Swimming and day you wish to swim, or click the link provided below. Pool access will continue to follow the same procedures as previously established for our Masters Swim Program in October 2020; however, everyone booked in the Public Workout Lanes will also be granted this ability to enter 10 minutes prior to their timeslot starting. A lifeguard will open the viewing area doors at 6:20am Monday, Wednesday, Friday in lieu of your Masters' coach. If you choose to use the hot tub within your 1 hour Workout Swim booking, you may do so as long as physical distancing allows.
We hope that these changes will be temporary and we will be able to return to regular training sessions in the near future.
Please remember to:
- Stay home if you are not feeling healthy
- Wear a mask in the change rooms before and after your swim
- Stay 2m from other swimmers both in and out of the water
- Do not engage in group discussion
Masters swim provides six days of training where you can attend the sessions of your choice. Coaches provide a structured work out and tips to improve your strokes. Participants can register for a monthly fee or pay for a single visit. All sessions will have limited spaces and must be booked up to one week in advance. No drop-in visits will be permitted due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Masters have the choice to attend any one of the following one hour workout times:
Sunday 7:45am, 8:45am or 9:45am
Mon/Wed/Fri 6:30am, 7:30am
Tues/Thurs 7:15pm, 8:15pm
Please note that our Masters Swim Program is currently cancelled at this time due to the Provincial Health Restrictions. The information listed below is for use of our Public Workout Lanes.
All swimmers must pre-register for a timeslot. Registration will be available 6 days in advance of your desired timeslot. For example, Monday’s 6:30am timeslot will be available to pre-register at 6:30am the previous Tuesday. We encourage our swimmers to pre-register for their following week’s timeslot after their workout.
There is a maximum of 5 swimmers per lane during each scheduled session. Upon registering, please choose the timeslot that fits your swim style. Lanes will be identified as Beginner/Intermediate or Intermediate/Advanced.
If a waitlist continues to grow, that includes swimmers who have not had the opportunity to pre-register for a timeslot, we may request those who are swimming 3-4 days a week to decrease to 2-3 days a week to allow for more space for others to swim.
Do a self-assessment.
- Do you have any COVID-19 symptoms?
- Symptoms Includes: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, stuffy or runny nose, loss of sense of smell, headache, muscle aches, fatigue or loss of appetite.
- Have you and/or anyone in your household traveled to any country outside of Canada within the last 14 days?
- Have you been identified by Public Health as a close contact and directed to self-isolate within the last 14 days?
If you answer YES to any of these questions:
- Do NOT attend the class. Contact our Front Desk at 250-545-6035, ext 0 to let us know you are not attending.
- We recommend you call 811 and follow their advice.
If you answered NO to all three questions, please attend your registered timeslot.
We encourage you to wear a mask when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
You can access the Recreation Center through the main lobby or west facility doors. Hand sanitizer will be provided at these entrances. Please do not arrive too early as our Lobby has a limited capacity.
Pool access is through the pool entrance (glass doors adjacent to the front desk) at the time your pre-registered timeslot starts. The Recreation Clerks or Masters coaches will be asking you health and wellness questions before entering the pool area.
Once you enter the pool area, please move quickly through the changerooms to the pool deck to the shallow end of the lap pool. All swimmers are required to follow pool’s general pool rules and COVID-19 modifications. Additional information regarding the Aquatic Centre’s facility protocols can be found here.
You are encouraged to come dressed with your swimsuit under your clothes, quickly change, and bring your personal belongings with you to the pool deck to store in the on-deck lap pool cubbies. There are no lockers available for use.
We encourage you to wear a mask when physical distancing cannot be maintained when preparing for class. Masks cannot be worn in the water due a high risk of asphyxia/suffocation.
During your workout, you will swim in the lane you pre-registered for. Please maintain 3 meters physical distancing to the other participants in your lane, unless they are within your own personal bubble.
Changeroom washrooms are available for your use during your timeslot. We ask that you please follow the proper guidelines for hand washing.
Once the workout is complete, please assist our staff by placing any used equipment in the ‘needs cleaning’ area as you make your way to the club changerooms. The hot tub is available for all pre-registered swim time slots for a maximum of 10 minutes within your booked time only.
As you leave the pool area, we encourage you to wear a mask when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
You will exit the pool area with all your personal belongings through the club changerooms. Pool users are limited to 15 minutes to quickly rinse and change before leaving the facility. We encourage all pool users to shower and groom respectively at home.
You will exit the Aquatic Centre through the Pool Viewing Area doors and exit the building through the Main Lobby Doors. We ask that you do not gather in groups in the lobby as our capacity is limited.
If you have someone picking you up, you are welcome to walk back to the Lobby to wait.
