The Polson Greenway is a plan that implements a 2.3 kilometer route that connects Polson Park, Downtown Vernon, businesses and shopping destinations along 29 Street and Vernon’s north end.

It includes a multi-use pathway on the east side for bus riders, cyclists and pedestrians,  two vehicle travel lanes for cars, trucks and transit, as well as a sidewalk on the west side of the street for pedestrians. It will be a major connecting link north to south for pedestrians and cyclists to travel safely from Vernon’s City Centre. It also provides an option for direct  access for automobiles  and transit service between Vernon’s north end and Downtown Vernon.

Why Build a Multi-Use Path?

The perception of safety is essential to attracting more people to cycling.  Vernon residents have identified multi-use paths as the safest, most enjoyable way to cycle. Vernon residents consistently reference existing multi-use paths, such as 25th Avenue and Okanagan Landing Road, as an enjoyable and safe route to travel on.

Why was this Route Selected?

29th and 30th Streets  were  selected to provide a direct connection between Downtown Vernon and shopping destinations in the north end without having to travel on Highway 97 or 27th Street.
29th Avenue north of 39th Ave was selected because it was the most direct route and had the safest crossings of busy streets. For the same reasons, 30th Street south of 39th Avenue was selected.
