Bullying

Bulling has many faces. The Vernon RCMP Safe Communities unit addresses the many types of bullying from the traditional school yard type to cyber bullying. We offer means of dealing with bullying and also why people bully. All workshops are tailored to the age of the audience.

Internet Safety

The Internet is a phenomenal and challenging environment that has become integral to communication, education, and popular culture in the 21st century. As such, staying safe in a cyber world is equally as challenging. The Vernon RCMP Safe Communities Unit offers Internet safety workshops tailored to seniors, parents, youth and children. We cover everything from what LOL means to issues surrounding sexual exploitation, internet fraud, protection from on-line predators and cyber bullying.

Street Smarts, Home, Bike and Wilderness Safety

The Vernon RCMP Safe Communities Unit believes that our children are our future. By investing time to educate our children in personal, home and community safety, we give them the tools to make informed, wise and safe decisions! Further, by educating the parents in the same topic areas we are able to help families create expectations, and safety programs that will provide peace of mind to parents and awareness for their children.

All of the programs are designed to be age appropriate and we partner with Vernon Search & Rescue and Vernon Fire Rescue Services.

Eddie the Eagle

With all the new video games, cap, pretend "laser", bb or pellet guns it's really hard to tell the difference between what is a real gun and what's a fake. Don't take a chance! If you see, or find, what you think could be a gun: "STOP! Don't Touch! Leave The Area! Tell an Adult!" that's the Eddie the Eagle way. Go and tell a responsible adult; a teacher, playground supervisor, Mom, Dad or guardian what you have seen. That way you can make sure that no one gets hurt.

Eddie the Eagle is a cartoon firearms safety bird with a simple message: "STOP! Don't Touch, Leave the area, Tell an Adult!" The program is offered through the Community Policing Office in partnership with the Vernon Fish and Game Club. Mr. Pete Wise, a federal and provincial firearms instructor and examiner, presents a simple, fast paced, child oriented program that teaches children what to do if they find what they think is a firearm. To date, the Eddie Eagle program has been presented to over 1500 students in the Vernon area. It has been a huge success. This program is geared towards the K-3 age group.
