2010 Rivers Day Activities
The 2010 Vernon Rivers Day Celebration in Kin Beach Park was full of great music and activities. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the event. This event is made possible by the community groups and organizations that volunteer their time, the talented young musicians that share their passion and the community members that come out to support a healthy future for our creeks, lakes and rivers. The City of Vernon would like to thank everyone for their commitment and enthusiasm. Below is a quick look at some of what we saw in the park on Rivers Day 2010

Rivers Day 2008
Sunday, September 28
BC Rivers Day takes place on the last Sunday of every September, across the province since 1980. More recently Rivers Day has become an international event which is celebrated as part of World Rivers Day.
In Vernon in 2008, a reusable bag design competition was held for school students around BC Rivers Day. The winners of this contest had their drawings featured on the 2009 EnviroBags and used in advertising for 2009 Earth Day events. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone who participated! |
|
Also for Rivers Day 2008 staff from the City of Vernon, the Allen Brooks Nature Centre, the Regional District of North Okanagan and GVS Water hosted a day-long event outside of the Recreation Centre beside the BX Creek. A creek clean up event was organized, trash collected was turned into sculpture, reusable bags were available for painting and many regional stewardship groups shared their experiences and volunteer opportunities with all interested community members. The event was a great success and will be built on in years to come. |
