Earth Hour takes place internationally on the last Saturday of every March, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Millions of people participate, in over 125 countries. Communities, businesses and governments sign up for Earth Hour each year, committing to turn off their lights for one hour in an effort to raise awareness about energy conservation.
In the past the City of Vernon has hosted an Earth Hour community celebration. This celebration is no longer hosted by the City, but Community members are encouraged to participate at home and at work, as well as to pledge their support online at www.earthhourcanada.org. You can also visit www.earthhour.org for more information.
Earth Hour was a big success. Vernon had an overall energy reduction of 3.4%, ranking 19 out of 91 participating communities in BC
and beating our best in previous years!
