June 6, 2009

The City joined the national Commuter Challenge for the Commuter Challenge for the second time this year to increasing success. The Commuter Challenge is a national community level program friendly competition between workplaces and communities that encourages Canadians to walk, cycle, ride-share/carpool, tele-commute or take transit instead of driving alone to school or work.

A Commuter Challenge Kick-Off Pancake Breakfast was held in the Library/Civic Square in downtown Vernon to recognize the efforts of Commuter Challenge participants and to encourage new participants to take up the challenge. Pancakes were flipped and many hungry commuters were fed.

A local bus was parked nearby to ensure that those cyclists who had never used the on-bus bike racks had the opportunity to give them a try.

Thanks to all who participated.
